PRINTY FRIENDS.
Annie Clifford was one of the two people who originally taught me how to screenprint & got this snowball rolling. actually, she’s doing much less printing nowadays; she mostly makes one-of-a-kind, handcrafted clothings, sewn from preloved & fair-trade fabrics. i’m rather in love with her mittens & hoodies.
Epidemic613 is run by my friend Barb, the other person who taught me how to screenprint. she uses bold, often political imagery & prints with some beautiful colour-mixing techniques. printed ties are brilliant. she also does custom work & teaches workshops.
Ironclad Graphics is run by my friend Julian. he does this for a living, producing shirts for touring bands, major events, &c. if y’re looking to have professional studio-produced large runs, contact him. he’s amazing at detailed work with lots of layers.
Benjamin Nelson makes a lot of custom poster designs for concerts & events in the area. his brightly-coloured, jagged-shape collage work is entirely unique & immediately recognizable from across the room. he prints at Ironclad. get him to do y’r promo poster when y’re in town for a show.
OTHER FRIENDS.
Apple Crisp is a local concert series & music festival, record label, music video club, online+print zine, and all-around good time, run by the nicest people in town.
Made4You was an arts co-op & store located downtown here in kingston. exclusively local, handmade goods. most artists use recycled materials too. closed at the end of 2009. temporarily we hope?
The Jungle is a downtown Kingston store that is not closed. vinyl records, rock merch, incense, posters, all manner of things. they’re selling my music-related designs and taking an embarassingly small cut of the profits, because they’re nice.
Songs To Wear Pants To is this thing my brother does as his job. isn’t that crazy?
JWu Photography is the work of my friend Justin, who is trying to break into the fashion industry & currently lives in Paris. i hung out only twice with Justin while he was in Kingston, during which time he taught me how to use my Leica M4 & the basics of manual photography in general. i’m deeply appreciative to’ve had such a great first teacher & i wish him much success in his fashion photography.
